The first ball to be pocketed without commiting a FOUL SHOT defines the TARGETS for the game. The player or team that pocketed the first ball will TARGET solids (1-7) if it was a solid and will TARGET stripes (9-15) if it was a stripe. If the first shot to pocket a ball without commiting a FOUL SHOT pockets both a stripe and a solid, TARGETS will not be assigned, but the you will not lose your turn and may still shoot at stripes or solids on your next shot. (This often happens on the break). After you pocket all of your TARGET balls, the 8 Ball becomes your target.
Note: You can always see your TARGET balls ABOVE YOUR NAME.

Shoot your Cue Ball so that you pocket one or more of your TARGET balls without commiting a FOUL SHOT. If you do not pocket any of your TARGET balls, you will lose your turn. If you commit a FOUL SHOT, you lose your turn and your opponent gets a FREE BALL and may place the Cue Ball anywhere on the table.

It is a FOUL SHOT if:
-The Cue Ball is pocketed.
-The Cue Ball does not hit any ball.
-The Cue Ball hits any ball before it hits one of your TARGET balls.
-No TARGET ball is pocketed and no ball hits a cushion.
-The 8 Ball is pocketed when it is not your TARGET (The 8 Ball is then placed randomly back on the table).

You must pocket all 7 of your TARGET balls and then the 8 Ball after it becomes your TARGET. Remember, if you commit a FOUL SHOT and pocket the 8 Ball it will be placed randomly back on the table and your opponent will get a FREE BALL.
